Obituary for Eileen Grasse

Peacefully passed away on Friday, September 20, 2019 at Orchard View Long-Term Care Home in Gagetown, New Brunswick at the age of 87. Eileen was born on May 28, 1932 in Fredericton to Gwen and Harley Carr. In 1955, Eileen married the love of her life, Sonny Grasse and together, they raised their three children.

Eileen spent her younger years working at The Daily Gleaner and Sears. She spent many seasons in the ticket booth for the UNB Varsity Reds but the majority of her years were spent working at Mazucca’s. She worked at Mazucca’s until they closed in 2007, at which time she retired. During her time spent working, she most enjoyed socializing with everyone she encountered.

Eileen was best known for her generosity. Both her grandchildren and her neighbour’s children will fondly remember Eileen for always having an abundance of treats to share with them. She made sure that the store room in the basement was always well stocked in the event one of the children came for a visit.

Eileen and Sonny took great pride in being active members of the St. Dunstan’s Roman Catholic Church where they would attend mass every Sunday morning. Eileen could be found sitting proudly next to Sonny in the second pew on the right hand side. Eileen attended religiously until entering Orchard View Long-Term Care Home in 2016. At this time, Sonny would attend church on their behalf and would bring her communion later that afternoon. He continued to do this until his passing in October 2018.

Eileen was predeceased by her husband Sonny. She is survived by her children Cheryl and husband Drew Sullivan, Wendy and husband Joe Comeau, and Kevin; her grandchildren Nicholas and wife Kim, Jared, Jenna and husband Chris, and Justin; and her great-grandchildren London and Lily, Henry and Arthur, and Keira.

The family would like to thank Orchard View Long-Term Care Home for their impeccable care of Eileen. The staff went above and beyond in making Eileen feel comfortable and at home and their kindness is very much appreciated.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, September 25th, 2019 at 12:05pm at St. Dunstan’s Church, 120 Regent Street. A small reception will follow.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick. Online condolences can be left at www.mcadamsfh.com
