Oh That Smile!

Oh that smile. Is it ok to cry and smile at the same time when thinking about Kevin Moore? I find myself doing that all the time and I can’t help but think, “That’s the reality of the situation.” Kevin always had a smile on his face. He was so happy to be living his life’s dream, a great wife, a wonderful daughter and 2 jobs he loved. His first job, I didn’t know much about but in true Kevin spirit, he let me know that if my daughter ever needed help finding a job in sports broadcasting, he could help. As if he hadn’t already helped my family enough. His second job, promoting military life and academy life in particular, I know about first hand.

I met Dale at Etiwanda Estates Bunco many years ago. She had just moved into the neighborhood and wasted no time making friends and fitting right in. Over the years I helped Eryn get some acting experience and she danced Ballet Folklorico with my daughter Hailey. Being huge Harry Potter fans, we met at Barnes and Nobles with Ron Weasley (my son Dylan) and Hermione (Eryn) at midnight for one of the book releases and had a fabulous time watching all the kids participate in activities. Dale & Kevin did everything they could to give Eryn all the opportunities she wanted to pursue.

When my son said he wanted to attend a military academy at the age of 14, Kevin stepped right in and led him on a journey to be accepted to not one, not two but three academies. Of course Kevin tried to persuade him to attend West Point but he also told him to follow his heart and Dylan chose the Air Force. Kevin could not have been more proud of Dylan if he was his own son. He was such a great role model for Dylan and I will never forget his kindness and commitment to him.

When Dale & Kevin said they were moving to Parker Colorado, we all were so excited for them to be able to see Dylan. They even bought tickets to the Air Force football game next week. It was so comforting to know that they were to be so close to Dylan while he attended the academy.

The heartbreaking ending to this man’s mortal life is something none of us will ever get over. I know for as much as we all hurt, Dale, Eryn, Richard, Margaret and all of Kevin’s family and close friends are hurting so much more. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you and if there is any comfort to have, it should be in knowing that your loved one touched so many lives in so many ways. He was an inspiration to all he encountered and his love of his family and his joie de vivre will forever be in our hearts. I know he will be with all of us everywhere we look. There will be no stopping his spirit to continue to watch over all of the people he has helped and loved.

Rest in Peace Kevin Allen Moore and know that you will never be forgotten.
