I came to know Tony after he accepted to take on my daughter as a bassoon student. The lessons were at Lyncourt school, and Jill being 14-15 years old at the time, I would sometimes drive her to the school for her lesson. I would stand outside in the hall, and listen to the lesson, hearing Tony play with Jill, advising her and giving her encouragement.
My daughter went on to become a wonderful bassoonist and a great music teacher, all because of the encouragement of Tony. She continues to play bassoon professionally, and at times, I can see Tony sitting right next to her.
To Tony's wife and daughters, I know you feel a sense of pride for Tony's accomplishments, he was an extraordinary man and will be sadly missed.
There's a saying by Maya Angelou that comes to mind: "People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel."
Tony made me feel happy, at ease, in wonder and so proud to see that wonderful man next to my daughter. Rest in peace Tony, job well done.
