Obituary for M. Rex Utley

Marion Rex Utley 1945~2018

M. Rex Utley, 72, passed away July 5, 2018 in Spanish Fork, Utah, after a heroic 38 year battle with Parkinson's. Born October 3, 1945 in Sevier, Utah to Cecil Cleve and Jeanette Hyatt Utley. He graduated from South Sevier High School in Monroe, Utah and earned a BS from Southern Utah University in Cedar City. He proudly served in the United States Military. He married Linda Smith on March 27, 1970 in Monroe, Utah. They were later sealed in the LDS temple.

Rex was a master of all trades. He could build and repair anything and was often found helping neighbors and friends with projects. He worked as a teacher, home builder and worked 17 years at the University of Utah in Campus Planning. He loved to fish and hunt and spent many weekends on his boat. He never complained and walked through life with grace and a smile. He was an example of courage, unconditional love, strength and devotion.

Rex is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda; sister, Lorraine Bosklopper; daughter, Sherrie Barbee (Matt); sons; Brooks (Lisa Marie), Bryan (Kristin), Brandon (Melissa); grandchildren: Zachary, Morgan, Jaiden, Jonathan, Madeleine, Jordan, Lincoln, Ashlin, Isabella, Samantha and Eli.

He is preceded in death by his brothers Cecil Utley, Morris Utley and his parents.

Graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 25, at 10 a.m. at Sandy City Cemetery, 700 E. 9000 S. Sandy, Utah with a Celebration of Life reception to follow at 11 a.m. at the Sandy Utah Granite South Stake, 9855 S. 2300 E. (Parkview Ward).
