Obituary for Carl Rufelds

Carl Rufelds December 9, 1932 – May 13, 2018, died suddenly and peacefully in his 85th year.

Loving husband of Helen Rufelds (Evanson), Carl will also be missed by his children Kurt and Carla and her husband Dan, and by his grandkids Cameron, Miles, Liam and Sylva.

A proud graduate of the University of Manitoba, he and Helen embarked on a dramatic career change from mechanical engineer to Canadian diplomat in 1961. His career took them to 10 postings on five continents before happily retiring in Fredericton in 1993.

An accomplished football player and curler, Carl was never happier than being at their off–the–grid log cabin in Quebec, where his ingenuity and tinkering were at their best, and where the family and beloved pets shared so many wonderful times together.

Part of what made Carl’s retirement enjoyable were the people he and Helen met in their new hometown. He was a committed Rotarian, a member of the Golden Club, and an avid member of the bridge group The Masters.

Friends are invited to an informal memorial at Fredericton’s Gallery 78 on May 17 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, and for those who wish, donations to Camp Rotary or to an organization of your choice would be appreciated. Online condolences can be made at www.mcadamsfh.com
