I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of the most wonderful teacher and friend that I could have ever hoped for. Mr. Smith was an amazing man. I graduated in 1997 from South River High School and was one of the many students whose lives were touched by his humor and life lessons. After graduation, I kept in touch with Mr. Smith. His teachings went beyond any history lessons or math problems. He was a mentor for life. He often spoke of his wife and children. I felt like I was part of the family. I wish I had the right words to say to comfort all of you as he did for so many of us. His laugh will never be forgotten. This world just got a lot less funny. Thank you for sharing him with us.
