A Wonderful Teacher, A Wonderful Man

Mr. Smith was one of those teachers that always cared more about a student's life, than the grade on their paper. Not to say that he didn't want his student to absorb his lessons, but he realized that the connection between a student and teacher could sometimes change a teenager's life. Mr. Smith was the co-sponsor of South River High School's class of 2002. As an active student, I had the pleasure of working with him closely. He gave his time willingly and generously when he didn't have to. He cared about us, each of us. During your school years, you probably will have 100+ teachers, Mr. Smith is one of the few that will stay the memories of thousands of students for their lifetime. My mother passed away my senior year, and Mr. Smith was right there to offer a hug, smile and sympathetic words. He allowed me to escape to his classroom when I needed a moment to myself. He allowed me to vent, to share, and to listen. I am ever thankful. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He was a very wonderful man who was taken too soon.
